VIKING FOOTBALL NEWS AND DOINGS “VFND” Issue # 2

President Dear fellow Viking Fan, Are you ready for some football?? In just a few short weeks the Vikes strap on the pads on and start getting ready for the 2008 Viking Football Season! For a football fan this is a great time of the year to go out to practice and watch as there is plenty of hitting and you can get up close to the action. This is also the only time of the year that College Coaches can get out to high schools and watch potential recruits in person so there will be high energy practices. Just click here for the spring practice schedule and the BLUE AND GOLD GAME on Friday May 16th at 2:00 pm at Cravens. The “KICK OFF” Booster Club meeting last night was very well attended and you really could feel what a special season 2008 promises to be. If you were unable to attend but want to get involved in some of the many activities we have planned for this year we need your help! Just email Lesley Robinson le-robinson@tx.rr.com or Peggy Poynter peggypoynter@tx.rr.com and they will get you involved! We also need you to join the Viking Club at whatever level you can. You have probably heard about “The History of Lamar Viking Football” (HLVF) coffee style book that the Viking Club is publishing. Rather than take up a lot of space here, please go to www.lamarlegends.com right now and read about this remarkable project. Just a word to the wise; place your order now for HLVF. If you wait, you may be disappointed as there are only 500 copies being printed. With 2100 ex and current Lamar football players alone, these won’t last long. Also please click on the DVD tab on the legends site and read about the special DVD and how to be a part of this tribute to Coach Peach. Finally, our traditional Viking Golf Tournament is just a month away. This is one of our main fund raisers for the Viking Club which in turn supports the football team and its needs. There are some killer silent auction items this year including “sideline passes for two” to ALL five Viking home football games! In next month’s issue I will give you some insight into the planning that is occurring for the “300th win celebration”.
